The American Woods Story
American Woods was founded in 1982 by Lowell and Georgia Innes in Grand Forks, North Dakota, with a vision to create timeless, quality, real wood products. That commitment continues today as we design and build premium, American-made furniture meant to endure. By using the finest materials and time-honored craftsmanship, each product is created with care, integrity, and pride. Our mission is simple—to craft exceptional furniture our customers can be proud to sell and own, made in America and built to last.
Wood Products Inc. started as a way to craft the perfect cabinets for the homes built by its parent company, Innes Construction. When those projects expanded into commercial spaces, the cabinet shop evolved too—growing its capabilities and product lines to keep pace with the demand.
Customers loved the cabinetry… and wanted more. They began asking for beautiful hardwood accessories to go with it, and American Woods was born—crafted from feedback, creativity, and a love for well-made wood goods.
The American Woods workshop got busier and the projects got larger. The team expanded into outdoor furniture, building cedar pieces that found their way into national retailers like Target, Costco & Lowes. Meanwhile, Wood Products kept doing what it did best: custom cabinetry with a craftsman’s touch.
Our partnership with Room & Board began in 2001 with the introduction of the Sherwood line, marking the start of a long and meaningful collaboration. This success was followed by the launch of Sydney—now known as Copenhagen—and Hayden, later reintroduced as LaSalle. Today, American Woods proudly continues to produce several Room & Board lines, including Berkeley, Copenhagen, and Danbury, each carrying forward a shared commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and timeless design.
After years of working side by side, the two companies—with the same ownership and the same passion for woodcraft—officially merged under the American Woods name. One roof. One team. One shared vision.
American Woods continues to grow with incredible partners and talented makers, building high-end, timeless furniture that feels just as good to live with as it does to look at. From cabinets to accessories to full-room collections, we’re still crafting pieces that last—and loving every minute of it.
